Ceramic Car Coating

Applying a ceramic coat to your car is one of the best ways to protect your cars paintwork from Sydney’s harsh conditions.

Unlike wax or sealants that wear off in weeks, a professionally applied ceramic coating to your vehicle forms a durable, hydrophobic barrier that shields your car from:

  • UV rays and fading

  • Oxidation and environmental contaminants

  • Bird droppings and tree sap

  • Road grime, tar, and water spots

As a bonus, it enhances the cars paint’s depth and clarity, keeping your vehicle looking newer for longer—with less washing and maintenance.

Ceramic Coating A Car

1. Paint Decontamination

Before applying any ceramic coating protection to your car, it’s essential to ensure the surface is 100% clean and free from contaminants. This multi-step decontamination phase removes everything your standard car wash misses. This applies to both brand new cars and used cars as all vehicles benefit from a ceramic coat.

High-pressure snow foam rinse – This is an essential part of car detailing where we begin with a thick layer of snow foam to loosen dirt, grime, and surface contaminants. The foam breaks down particles without rubbing, reducing the risk of swirl marks.

3 bucket hand wash – Using the industry-leading 3-bucket method (one for wash, one for rinse, and one for wheels), we hand wash all surfaces on your vehicle including wheels, tyres, arches, and door jambs.

Iron fallout & clay bar treatment – Next, we use a specialised iron remover to dissolve embedded metallic particles like brake dust, followed by a clay bar treatment that lifts bonded contaminants such as tree sap and industrial fallout. This step leaves the paint ultra-smooth and readies your car for a paint correction.

2. Paint Correction & Enhancement

As stated before, even brand-new cars often have imperfections from the factory, so it’s critical that even cars straight from the show room receive a paint correction and ceramic coat.

Stage 1 Paint Enhancement – Single stage machine polish that removes light swirl marks, oxidation, and surface imperfections—restoring depth, clarity, and gloss to your vehicle’s paint with a noticeable improvement in shine.

Stage 2 or Stage 3 Paint Correction– A multi-stage polish that removes moderate to heavy swirls, scratches, and oxidation. The process is adjusted based on your vehicle’s paint condition—greatly improving the look and feel of your car.

Continual Removal of Defects – Once the defects are removed, we refine the paint surface even further. This is a critical stage before applying the coating.

Gloss Enhancement Polish – We refine the finish using ultra-fine polish to boost gloss, smoothness, and colour vibrancy—perfectly preparing the paint for ceramic bonding.

Perfect Surface for Coating – A properly enhanced surface ensures the ceramic coating bonds correctly and looks its best under all lighting conditions.

How much does Ceramic Coating costs?

We often get asked how much does it cost to Ceramic Coat your car. When we are applying a ceramic coat it depends on:

  • The Condition of the Car
  • If paint correction is needed and how many stages of paint correction is needed
  • How long you want the protection on your car to last

Unlike some other car detailers we have outlined the costs of our ceramic coating car services on our prices page

Commonly Asked Ceramic Coating Questions

Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that’s applied to a car’s paintwork to create a permanent or semi-permanent protective layer.

Once cured, it forms a hard, glossy barrier that repels water, resists dirt, UV rays, and light scratches—keeping your car cleaner and shinier for longer.

It depends on the product used and how well the vehicle is maintained. At Proficient Details, we offer:

  • Gtechniq Light – Up to 5 years of protection

  • Gtechniq Ultra – Up to 9 years of protection

Regular washing with pH-neutral products and avoiding harsh chemicals will help maximise a ceramic coating life span.

Yes – in fact, the sooner the better. Even new cars often come with paint imperfections or contaminants. We’ll properly decontaminate and correct the paint before sealing it with a ceramic coating, giving it the best start.

Definitely, most used cars benefit even more from ceramic coating after a full paint correction, which we include in our process. It restores gloss, removes swirl marks, and protects your investment for years to come.

Ceramic coatings are not bulletproof, but they do provide a level of scratch resistance against light swirls and marring caused by washing or everyday contact.

No coating makes a car 100% maintenance-free, but it significantly reduces the time and effort needed to keep your vehicle clean. Dirt and water won’t stick as easily, and you won’t need to polish or wax your car regularly.
